A pregnant dog that adopted an orphaned monkey after its mother was poisoned in Chakki Mor, Solan in northern India was captured in poignant photographs by Prakash Badal. The talented photographer had at first intended to photograph birds.

According to the Daily Mail, the 10-day-old monkey was orphaned after villagers poisoned its mother to guard their crops. The heartwarming photos showed the baby monkey hugging a heavily pregnant dog; successively the mother dog appeared to be enjoying the cuddling.
It’s not known how the infant survived, but the mother dog adopted it.
“… I felt that when a mother saw a baby who is extremely small and left alone and there's nobody to require care of him, the maternal instinct took the initiative to adopt a little baby albeit it’s from different species,” Badal said.
