Toby desperately chased after the man who left him at the shelter. But a few weeks later, the Blue Heeler hit the jackpot!
A Blue Heeler who was abandoned during a shelter’s parking zone has found an exquisite new home after video was released of him chasing after the person who left him there.
Earlier this month, a video was released of a person dropping off the Blue Heeler at the front entrance of Hawkins County Humane Society in Tennessee on a Saturday afternoon. The shelter was closed at the time because it had been under a quarantine, so the man simply left the dog ahead. Hawkins County Humane Society via Sandy Murray

But when the person attempted to go away, the dog, nicknamed Rawhide and now named Toby, desperately chased after him, jumping on him to urge his attention. The man pushed Toby away and drove off, whilst Toby chased after his truck as he pulled onto the highway, consistent with WJHL.

Fortunately, HCHS staff spotted the dog and ran after him to bring him safely inside the shelter. The Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office did find the dog’s owner but no charges were filed. HCHS said that the person had expressed remorse for leaving the dog, which they believe the public humiliation he received on social media was sufficient punishment. They later posted the e-mail sent to them from the person, who said the dog wasn't his but was, in fact, a stray he had rescued.
As for Toby – he hit the jackpot when it involves an adoptive home. Taylor Helton, who lives shortly from the shelter on a farm, immediately knew she could give Toby the right home. She visited the shelter a day for 2 weeks straight to spend time with him and obtain to understand him. AlbeitAlthough the shelter received many applications, they knew that Taylor was the one who should adopt him.

The Hawkins County Humane Society, through Sandy Murray Taylor, owns two other Blue Heelers and a large farm with 9 horses and 50 cows. Toby has quickly settled in, becoming the oldest big brother to the opposite two dogs and doesn’t leave Taylor’s side.
“Taylor has come thus far together with his training as he was very high energy. He follows her around off leash and listens to her commands I feel this boy goes to possess the simplest life ever,” the shelter wrote. “Even though he was mistreated, he was still so sweet, and that I love heelers,” Taylor told the day News. “I’m on a farm and that I have horses and cattle, and they’re (heelers) specialized with horses and cows and just specialized, loyal dogs.”

She added, “When I'm going on a walk on the farm, he’ll walk so on the brink of me that he brushes my leg. He won't leave my side. He doesn’t use a lead. He just follows me like my other ones do. He’s got a younger brother and a younger sister now that he plays with all the time.” “He became a member of the family directly. This is often the house he always deserved, and now he’s here.”
